Primary activities in the mining sector include mining, oil and gas extraction as well as support services and mineral products manufacturing.  Products mined on Vancouver Island include zinc, copper, gold, silver as well as other extracted products from quarries and gravel pits including limestone.
Though representing the smallest sectors at 0.7% of regional employment, the sector is very valuable in the communities where it exists due to higher-than-average wages and ensuing spin-offs.
