Fishing and Aquaculture
As an island, fishing and aquaculture exist on all parts of Vancouver Island.  The sector includes commercial and sports fishing, seafood products manufacturing and farmed seafood products.  Wild fisheries include salmon, herring, groundfish and shellfish.  The region has some of the best natural conditions for aquaculture production.  Overall, sector employment grew by 30% between 2001 and 2006.
