Construction trends on Vancouver Island are based on the most recent boom in housing starts and other developments.  Record levels of building permits were issued in 2007 for most communities – overall reaching 3 times the 2001 levels.  Building construction, heavy construction, as well as many types of trade contractors are actors in this economic sector.
