High technology manufacturing includes the manufacturing of components for aerospace, medical equipment, pharmaceutical and computer equipment industries. High technology services include software development, telecommunications, Internet and computer systems.  Consultants and specialists in scientific research and development are also present in this sector.  Job growth in these activities has outpaced the average employment growth on Vancouver Island, increasing approximately 15% between 2001 and 2006.
