Electric power generation, transmission and distribution, natural gas distribution and local utility infrastructure such as water and sewer systems are included in this sector.  Vancouver Island is a net importer of electricity, producing only about ¼ of what is consumed and accounts for a lower concentration of utilities jobs in the region than would otherwise be found elsewhere.
